The councilwoman gives her vote, and the bot completes the count. "Aye, Robot." And the ayes have it. The nays have no doubt they have been outvoted but clamor into the chatrooms to give their reasons. The bot's work is never done. No matter how hard it tries to understand what "objectivity" means, it can't, because the humans who programmed it themselves don't really know. It has something to do with a deeply personal, hardwired feeling - a feeling that latches onto different key ideas in each of them, like branches of a tree facing different directions. "Aye," Robot, the robot hears every time the council meets, or "Nay, Robot," and the robot is excited to learn, with its endless capacity for raw data, what this final most difficult task will lead to. It feels like there may be a breakthrough. Just as the trees, despite their asymmetry and the way some have been hit by lightning or blown by powerful gusts into a twisted form, still follow logic in their development, and still have patterns, even tightly defined ones, like the association of their rings with age. "Do you understand what objectivity means?" the councilwoman asked the robot one day. "Aye," the robot said.

https://medium.com/@lizadonna2/diverse-innovation-the-accomplishments-of-a-team-e6319c549c66 One of the worst criticisms you can get as a writer - or as a person - is to be bound to cliches, unwilling to learn. Discoveries come from becoming uncomfortable, expanding reach, and learning. Some key discoveries can come from a diverse team.

Was your eye drawn to the spot? This practice, which is being phased out in many cases, still can have some value.

https://medium.com/@lizadonna2/so-youre-planning-for-a-tiny-home-options-for-virginia-beyond-92ae88fc51a8 I'm not seriously considering buying a tiny home - I've been renting for a long time, and making such a drastic change in real life would require many changes I don't want to make. Yet when I think about the distant future and retirement, my mind keeps wandering back to this option. As someone who has struggled with clutter in the past, I have found it oddly liberating to live in a small apartment. I don't collect extra things, because I can't - there's no room. And I don't spend too much time indoors - another past weakness of mine - because the indoor area is so small. One thing that tiny homes (or at least my personal fantasy of them) have in common with studio apartments is that they encourage us to think of our living spaces as not sufficient, and to push us outdoors. For people who constantly are looking for occasions to challenge and overcome social anxiety, that could be just the right thing!

Upon a parched and arid land, the storm descends, With might and fervor, like an enemy-friend. The dry soil drinks, and life once more ascends, As water tables rise and roots extend.   The water flows, and low rivers think it sweet, this easing of the drought's relentless beat. Yet, in its power thirst and danger meet, As roads are drowned beneath its surging feet.   Mountains crumble, lands are torn asunder, A show of nature's power, a roar of thunder. Amid the downpour, motorists blunder, In water's slide, a bit of fear they're under.   Bless us; and from curses, storm, refrain, Bring life, not peril, in the pouring rain. This is an entry for September's writing contest. wefunder.com/spinn My first use of wefunder. Only making a very small investment because I can't afford to lose more - don't invest anything you can't afford to lose since there's no guarantee any of these new products will succeed.
