Recently Storm Daniel, which first swept through Greece, transformed into a medicane as it approached Libya, triggering flash floods and claiming the lives of more than 5,000 people. Right now, due to the floods hitting the eastern city of Derna particularly hard, the death toll has almost reached 500. The city has been cut off from the rest of the country, and there is a shortage of food and medical supplies. Similar events occurred around the world, with China experiencing record-breaking rainfall, Brazil experiencing severe flooding and Belgium suffering its first September heatwave on record.
